Starring Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer, Dark Shadows arrives in theaters this Friday. Helena Bonham Carter and Jonny Lee Miller also star in the gothic film, but one cast member you may not know is Eva Green, the 31-year-old beauty who plays vengeful witch Angelique Bouchard. Here are a few fun facts about this up and coming Hollywood hottie. 

Born in 1981 to a French actress and a Swedish dentist, Green grew up in Paris and also spent time in England and Ireland. The international upbringing served Eva well, though the actress isn’t strongly attached to any one country.

"I feel like a citizen of the world. Life and cinema don't have borders,” Green told a French publication.

Eva decided to become an actress at age 14. The determined Green studied drama at three different schools – one in Paris, one in London and one in New York City – before returning to Paris to star in several different plays. In 2003, Green made her film debut in the sexually-charged flick The Dreamers.

Though Eva starred in a couple of films after her well-received debut, her big break came in 2006’s Casino Royale. The actress plays Vesper Lynd in the spy thriller, a role that earned her the BAFTA Rising Star Award. Though Green initially turned down the part, she eventually relented after reading the script and realizing that Vesper is far deeper than the average Bond girl. After Casino Royale, Eva starred in The Golden Compass and the European films Franklyn, Cracks, Womb and Perfect Sense. Green also starred as sorceress Morgan le Fay in the first season of Starz’s Camelot.

Despite a successful film career, Green is rather shy and withdrawn. Acting, she says, helps her cope with her feelings.

"When people first meet me, they find me very cold,” she said. “I keep myself at a distance, and I think that's why I'm so drawn to acting. It allows me to wear a mask.”
