The SuicideGirls, or SGs for short, are a community of sexy punk rock, goth, and emo girls who celebrate “alternative beauty and alternative culture from all over the world.” These fiesty women have been featured in over 500 magazines and have even opened for Guns ‘N Roses, but they’re not the only group of models embracing unique standards of beauty. Meet the Uk’s Apocalypse Girls (AGs).

While there are clearly similarities between the SuicideGirls and the Apocalypse Girls, the groups are not identical. The SGs almost exclusively feature women with tattoos and piercings, whereas the AGs look beyond ink and jewelry and welcome alternative models without traditional symbols of non-conformity. The SuicideGirls have also faced criticism for selecting traditionally-beautiful women who look like they got a makeover from Hot Topic. The Apocalypse Girls, on the other hand, feature everyday women.

“We like pretty girls, not just the ones covered in tattoos or perforated with piercings, but also the ones you see in clubs, at gigs, behind bars, on the number 36 with pink hair listening to Soundgarden,” reads the Apocalypse Girls website. “We like models, sure, but we like non-models too. We like real, gorgeous girls who've never thought of modeling.”
