For the first time in 15 years, a Miss USA has snagged the Miss Universe crown! Rhode Island’s Olivia Culpo, 20, beat out 88 other beauties from around the world to become the new Miss Universe 2012. 

“What an honor! This night was a dream come true,” Culpo tweeted after her win. “Thank you everyone for your support tonight!! USA finally did it!"

A 25-year-old beauty beat out 88 other contestants to become Angola's first Miss Universe. She dazzled the audience and celebrity judges with her sparkling smile and confident answers.

Born in Angola's Benguela Province, Lopes is currently studying business management in Great Britain. She spoke to the judges in Portuguese, her country's official language. Already an activist, Lopes hopes her new title will enable her to help even more.

4th Runner Up - Miss Philippines, Venus Raj

• Due to residency issues, pageant officials stripped Venus Raj of the Miss Philippines Universe 2010 title but restored it after strong protests from the national and international community.
• Venus was born in Doha, Qatar, but her mother brought her to the Philippines when she was just an infant.
• For over 20 years, Venus lived in bamboo hut with no electricity. She used rice paddy dikes to practice her runway walk.
